Canadian Government Vanier Graduate Scholarship Awards for International Students 2022

A big hurray! The Canadian Government is pleased to offer Vanier Graduate Scholarships to outstanding international students for the academic year 2022/23.

 

After studying in Canada, applicants will have the opportunity to obtain a permanent residence after graduating from a world-class university.

With the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship Award, students demonstrating leadership skills and a high level of scholarship are supported in graduate studies in the social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and health in order to attract and retain world-class doctoral students.

A Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) helps Canadian institutions attract highly qualified and outspoken doctoral students.

The following criteria were used for selection:

  • They must be nominated by their desired institution
  • You must meet the following requirements
    • Achieving academic excellence
    • Potential research areas
    • Possessing leadership potential and demonstrating it

Duration and perks of scholarships

  • During the 3-year scholarship period, the scholarship is valued at $50,000 (non-renewable).
  • Three federal agencies grant scholarships equally:
    • The Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR)
    • Research Council for Natural Sciences and Engineering (NSERC)
    • Research Council for the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSHRC)

Entering the contest:

The institution where the candidate wishes to study must nominate them. The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships program (Vanier CGS) does not accept direct applications.

Using the Universities Canada website, research Canadian institutions to begin your application process. The university’s website should be browsed and viewed thoroughly Identifying your doctoral program of interest and potential supervisors for your proposed research is essential.

Consult the Vanier CGS quota page to confirm that your institution of interest has a quota for the year in which you are applying.

The required documents are listed below

The following documents must be submitted by candidates to apply;

  • The ResearchNet application form (includes two letters of reference, each with three sections)
  • Completing the Common CV (CCV) (limited entries; information is available in Completing the Common CV).
  • A maximum of one page should be devoted to research contributions
  • For English applications, it should be no more than two pages; for French applications, it should be no more than 2.5 pages.
  • Special Circumstances (optional, maximum 0.5 pages)
  • Leadership reference letters (maximum two pages)
  • In English, the proposal should not exceed two pages; in French, it should not exceed 2.5 pages.
  • References (maximum of 5 pages)
  • Authenticated transcripts
